Harry's third year at school is marred by not getting his permission note to go into Hogsmeade signed by Uncle Vernon, after Harry inflated Aunt Marge. A mysterious Prisoner who has escaped from Azkaban appears to be hunting Harry down, and so security is tightened.
Again all is not what it seems when Harry learns about his own past and capabilities, and as he also meets new teachers, in particular, Remus Lupin. See how much you can remember of Harry's adventures, and how important the events of Prisoner of Azkaban are to the entire series. The three options at the top of the page will allow you to record your score. QUESTIONS: 1. What is the importance of the newspaper clipping Ron sent to Harry? 2. 12 out of 15 woo
Why was Harry so affected by dementors - I think Lupin said it when he explained Harry had horrors in his past so when Harry is faced with those its extra hard for him to overcome. Also Dementors feed on happy thoughts, and Harry's transition from his life at Privet Drive to Hogwarts and finding friends and a home would make anyone really happy if they had to live with the Dursleys for so long so this could attract them to Harry more than others possibly? Why did Snape dislike Harry's father and Remus Lupin so much - I think they made Snape's childhood pretty bad, and ofcourse James and Lily got together, and it really gets to Snape that James saved his life and that sitiuation specifically involved James and Remus. Why couldn't Remus Lupin keep his DADA job - I guess voldemort cursed the post so something was always going to come up, but for discussion i'd say because Snape let slip he was a werewolf he could no longer keep his job. Parents would be outraged, the governers would come down on Dumbledore and it wouldnt be good for anyone if he was removed as headmaster. Remus was a great teacher but if i was a parent i guess i wouldn't be comfortable about it either unless i was a personal friend and i knew how nice of a person Remus actually was, and i dont think he had many friends because of his condition so it was never going to be possible for him to continue. -------------------- Ron: Do you think she knows I exist?
Harry: Well, I'd bloody well hope so, she's been snogging you for three months |

I think that someone said somewhere that Harry had a bit of Voldemort inside him so the piece of Voldemort was also reliving its worst moment.
Also I think that there were several reasons why Snape disliked Remus Lupin so much. He was a friend of James Potter, and Snape hated anyone to do with James Potter, who married Lily eventually. I also think that Snape couldn't wait for everyone to know that Remus Lupin was a wwerewolf, and therefore could not be employed at Hogwarts in any capacity. Do you really believe, now that the series is finished that Snape really wants the DADA position? |

I got 13 out of 15.
(I actually got the name right for question 3 but, for some reason, I couldn't remember which of the two names went first and which went second; which was the given name and which the surname. Silly of me. So I deducted a point from my score for that. And, in my mind, my answer to question 15 was not specific enough, so I took one away for that too.) lw -------------------- |

I answered 15 out of 16 correctly (
The direct reason that Lupin couldn't keep his DADA job was that Snape had outed him as a werewolf. It is very unlikely that Dumbledore could have convinced the parents of the Hogwarts students that Lupin was not a danger to their children; to do so he would have had to overcome both their fear and the social stigma that is attached to werewolves. Later in the series we learn that the position is cursed and something else would have prevented Lupin from staying on. I felt as Harry did when I first found out that Lupin was leaving; surely there must be some way around this! He's such a good teacher! But it was not to be. At first in the book we are lead to believe that Snape's attitude toward Lupin is motivated by jealousy over not getting the DADA job. Then we learn that he was James' friend, and thus a school rival, but we don't learn until later in the series just how deep the rivalry runs. I wonder if Snape's dislike of Lupin also stemmed from his resentment of the special treatment that Lupin received in order to attend school and to return to teach there. Snape always seemed to feel that the Marauders had an easier lot in life because they were popular. As the "oddball" kid, no one ever gave Snape any kind of break for coming from a troubled home. Nor do I think he would want one, but I think he resented others who didn't tough it out silently as he did. So here comes Lupin, back to Hogwarts and getting special treatment again, (quiz spoiler -->) including having Snape himself make the potion to keep Lupin's lycanthropy in check. Well, no wonder Snape's a little bitter. The whole year that Lupin was teaching at Hogwarts, Snape must have felt that Lupin was Dumbledore's "teacher's pet". I was relieved though that at least the DADA job curse played out this way, and not through Lupin being irreparably harmed during the night of the Shrieking Shack incident. 14/15 Missed the one about Stan Shunpike.
1. Why was Harry so affected by dementors? Because of his scar? 2. Why did Snape dislike Harry's father and Remus Lupin so much? They picked on him during school and James ended up with Lily. 3. Why couldn't Remus Lupin keep his DADA job? He quit because as soon as word got out he was a werewolf parents wouldn't want him teaching their children. -------------------- |

WOW! This does not happen to me. I missed only two Stan Shunpike and the number of times Harry played Quidditch against Ravenclaw. I am in the top group this time.

Wow, I only got one wrong!
Q1. Why was Harry so affected by dementors? A1. Dementors feed on the positive emotions, happiness and good memories of human beings, forcing them to relive their worst memories. Perhaps Harry is affected the most because his worst memories are stronger and more powerful than those of the average person. I mean, come on, at this time he's faced and survived Lord Voldemort three times. How many other witches and wizards could claim that at thirteen? Q2. Why did Snape dislike Harry's father and Remus Lupin so much? A2. This is actually the saddest sub-plot of Harry Potter, for me. Severus Snape is my favorite character. Q3. Why couldn't Remus Lupin keep his DADA job? A3. He was a werewolf. I think it's self explanatory. And for the record, POA is my favorite book. |
